Hugh Jackman Wants to Play Wolverine Until He Dies
In case you’re still wondering how much longer Hugh Jackman will want to play Wolverine, the answer is… until he dies. In a recent interview with Cigar Aficionado (via: E! Online), he reveals that watching Michael Keaton in Birdman stirred something inside him.
“I said to my wife, ‘The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I’ve got to find a way to keep playing him until I die.’ I know that someday they’ll recast the role with another actor… I’d be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic.”
As you know, the actor has previously talked about it almost being time to step away from the role. It doesn’t sound like thats going to happen now. He’ll have to be pushed out by the studio. He then goes on to discus his mindset every time he steps into the role of Wolverine and how he pushes himself more and more each time he takes it on.
“I always want to be in better shape than I was for the last one. I don’t believe in stagnation. People say they try to maintain the status quo. But I believe the natural cycle means you’re either advancing and getting closer to something or you’re receding…Every time I play Wolverine I want to go further, physically and emotionally.”
That’s hardcore dedication. You know what? Jackman can play Wolverine as long as he wants. It’s going to be so weird when someone actually takes over the part, but hopefully it doesn’t happen anytime soon. I hope that they at least let him play the character until they adapt the comic series Old Man Logan for the big screen.
There’s no confirmation that Jackman will appear in X-Men: Apocalypse, but it is possible he could be in it. He’s definitely set up for a third standalone Wolverine, film which will be released on March 3rd, 2017. That movie is being developed by James Mangold, and Patrick Stewart also recently said there could be a team-up film between Logan and Professor Xavier.
What do you think about the comments Jackman made here?
