INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 Casts Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, and Jessie Usher

Jessie Usher, the lead of Starz’s series Survivor’s Remorse, has been cast in the lead role of director Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2

Usher will play a major role in the story as the son of Will Smith’s character from the first film, Steven Hiller. Smith will not be in the film, but it looks like the spirit of his character will be be felt. Jeff Goldblum is also set to reprise his role from the first film, and Liam Hemsworth was cast in an unspecified role. There is a rumor, though, that he could be playing the nephew of Bill Pullman's president. There's no confirmation of that, and there's no word on if Pullman himself will be back.

I’ve neverseen Survivor’s Remorse, so I don’t know if his casting is a good thing or a bad thing. In the show, he plays a basketball player who moves to Atlanta with his family. It was renewed for a second season, so it must not be a bad show.

The sci-fi adventure movie is set for release on June 24th, 2016, which is almost exactly 20 years from when the first Independence Day exploded in theaters on July 3rd, 1996. I sure did love that first movie, and I can only hope that this sequel will be just as entertaining.
