Insanely Dark R-Rated POWER RANGERS Fan Film with Katee Sackhoff

Producer Adi Shankar, the man who brought us Dredd and Lone Survivor, is back with another crazy dark unofficial fan film for us to enjoy. He previously released other fan films, such as The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, Venom: Truth in Journalism, and the animated Judge Dredd: Superfiend.

Now he has made the grittiest version of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers that we've ever seen. Seriously, this thing is absolutely insane, and very R-rated.

The short was directed by Joseph Kahn (Torque, Detention), and it stars Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) and James Van Der Beek (Dawson's Creek). What funny about this is that Kahn isn't even a fan of the Power Rangers. He talked about the project In an interview with Hitfix.

“I think the trick that I really wanted to do with this was to make that dark and gritty version that everybody keeps talking about, but really do it. Really see if I could totally accomplish it with essentially a really incredible incredibly silly property.”

As you know, Lionsgate is currently developing a new big screen adaptation of the property, and there's no way it will be anything like this. In fact, I don't think it will be as good as what you're about the watch. Even if Kahn was asked to direct their film, though, he wouldn't do it.

“The irony here is that I wouldn’t even want to make 'Power Rangers: The Movie’ for real. Like if I had to make a ‘Power Rangers’ movie, this is it. It’s 14 minutes long and it’s violent and this is what I have in me. If they offered me the 200 million version, the PG-13 version, I literally wouldn’t do it. It’s just not interesting to me.”

He makes a great point. After seeing something like this would you even be interested in seeing a PG-13 version of Power Rangers?

The Lionsgate version of the franchise will be released in theaters on July 22nd, 2016. Now watch the short and give us your review.

Below the short is another video in which Shankar explains why he decided to develop this bootleg Power Rangers film.

When I was a child I had two favorite TV shows the X-Men animated series and Power Rangers. I eventually came to the realization that high school kids weaponized to fight an intergalactic threat would turn those kids into some seriously disturbed adults.
