Inside Guillermo Del Toro's Crimson Peak and Pacific Rim Comic-Con Experience
If you are lucky enough to be at Comic-Con this year, make sure to head on over to the Legendary Pictures booth because it's packed full of really cool stuff! Director Guillermo del Toro is presenting a couple things there that are definitely worth checking out. One is for his upcoming horror film Crimson Peak, the other is an Oculus experience that's been created for Pacific Rim.
I had a chance to experience these on preview night, and it was a extremely cool experience! First of all, I got a personal tour of the Crimson Peak exhibit from Del Toro himself, and I have to say that was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had. I got to chat with him about his upcoming movie for a bit, and this gothic haunted house horror film he's creating is going to be batshit insane! They basically built a spooky, cool, small section of the haunted house in the film inside the booth along with some props. He was very excited about this project, and I can't wait to see the teaser trailer for it in Hall H this coming Saturday.
Here's some additional information on what the experience entails:
Legendary's attractions at this year's show will allow fans to step right into the mind of Guillermo del Toro through an exclusive virtual reality experience - during which they will train to become a Jaeger pilot in Pacific Rim - and an interactive Gothic Gallery that will take fans right into the haunted world of Crimson Peak, which is set to open in theaters on October 16th, 2015.
A physical experience handcrafted by Guillermo del Toro himself, the Crimson Peak Gothic Gallery will allows fans to get a glimpse behind the curtain of the movie and an early tease of the ultimate haunted house. Designed in the look of one of the sets of the movie, the Gothic Gallery is a living breathing gallery of curiosities that includes props, costumes, and an atmospheric soundscape designed by Academy Award winner Randy Thom.
The other part of this attraction was the Pacific Rim Oculus virtual reality experience. I've never played around with this Oculus thing before I did this, but holy crap, it was awesome! I was completely immersed in the world of Pacific Rim as a Jaeger pilot. I had never experienced anything like this before, and this truly is the future of video games and other forms of entertainment. I was kind of blown away by it all. When you look around in this thing you can see the whole environment around you. When I even looked down at my hands and feat all I saw was me wearing that Jaeger pilot suit, which was sweet as hell. Here's some more information on that greatness:
Pacific Rim: Jaeger Pilot is the next evolution of the universe Legendary is creating with director Guillermo del Toro. Created by the leading pioneers of virtual reality, Oculus VR, the attraction delivers a new benchmark in virtual reality experiences as fans will step into a fully-realized Jaeger Combat Simulator and experience what it feels like to pilot a 250-story robot. Created with original film assets from Industrial Light & Magic and developed within Unreal Engine 4, Pacific Rim: Jaeger Pilot provides a thrilling first-person battle between Gipsy Danger and the kaiju codenamed Knifehead.
Everyone who completes the simulation will sign-up to ‘Join the Fight’ and be awarded their own personalized Jaeger Pilot badge, paving the way for the future of the franchise.
This is a must attend attraction for anyone who is a fan of Del toro and the films that he makes! It's definitely worth it. Check out some more photos below of the booth courtesy of Legendary Pictures.
