Interesting New Details on the FRIDAY THE 13th TV Series
Some new information has surfaced regarding the Friday the 13th TV series that was announced last year. The info comes from Fridaythe13thfranchise.com, who attended the Monster-Mania convention recently in New Jersey. It was there that franchise creator Sean Cunningham spilled the details.
The new TV series is being written by Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar), and we previously learned that the story would re-imagine "Jason in multiple time periods." It sounded like an interesting series concept, and here are some more details about what we can expect from the series.
"Sean Cunningham confirmed interest from the CW in regards to pickup for the tv show. According to him, the basic premise focuses on the REAL city of Crystal Lake, and the effect that the serialized films had on its real life counterpart. This allows them to reimagine Jason in a more grounded reality, as the films would be based off the real life killings that took place at the Camp. (ie, both the Hockey Masked Jason and a more serious backwoods inspired killer will be making appearances throughout) "
That's incredibly intriguing, and it gives the character, setting, and franchise a whole new and very meta dynamic. I think the concept is actually pretty fantastic. I like how the story will center around this town and how the movies have affected it and the citizens who reside there. It's a more creative and interesting way to take on this material, other than just focusing on the slasher aspect of things. This updated idea gives them a lot of room to play with.
I'm also curious to see how they handle Jason and this backwoods-inspired serial killer, especially since Jason will be a fictional character within the storyline. I'm not quite sure how he’s going to show up outside of movie film clips, but the crazed murderer who inspired Jason will be seen throughout the series. Maybe he will sport the iconic hockey mask, or have some kind of hideous appearance like Jason. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Those are the only details we have so far, but we will keep you informed as more info comes available. In the meantime, let us know what you think about the direction they are taking the series.
