Is Jena Malone Playing This Well-Known Comic Character in BATMAN V SUPERMAN?
Last year, word came out that The Hunger Games actress Jena Malone had a role in her Sucker Punch director Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but we weren't 100% sure who she'd be playing. One report claimed she'd be suiting up as a female Robin, playing Carrie Kelley, the character from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns comic, which has clearly influenced Snyder's movie in multiple ways. (Her red hairdo at the time seemed to back that claim.) But now Latino-Review says Malone is playing an entirely different character. (Potential spoilers ahead.)
The outlet says that three sources have told them Malone will be playing Barbara Gordon, the capable daughter of police commissioner Jim Gordon who, in the comics, becomes Batgirl and then, after being paralyzed by The Joker, the tech guru known as Oracle. There's no word on whether she'd actually don a Batgirl suit in this film or if the production will incorporate the backstory of The Killing Joke into the movie, but Snyder loves creating comic iconography on screen, so it wouldn't surprise me if we end up seeing a quick shot that mirrors Alan Moore's famous comic. Do I think she'll take on either of those personas in Dawn of Justice? No, simply because the movie is already so stuffed with characters. But could it happen in the DC Cinematic Universe somewhere down the line? If this report is true, then absolutely.
