Is Marvel Studios' INHUMANS Movie Going To Be Cancelled?
Here's an interesting rumor regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool is reporting that that he overheard "well connected sources" in bars last night after New York Comic Con saying that Marvel Studios plans to move the Inhumans movie completely off their release slate. Why? Well, it apparently has to do with the recent restructuring within the company.
As many of you know, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige no longer has to report to Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter, the notoriously frugal billionaire who admittedly saved the company from bankruptcy years ago but has been a thorn in Feige's side in recent years creatively speaking. With Feige reporting directly to Disney and the creative committee no longer in play on the film side of things, there's rumored to be an even bigger separation between the movies and the television shows (Perlmutter still controls the TV department). Bleeding Cool points out Inhumans is the movie that Marvel TV most wanted to happen since they've been setting up for that storyline in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and they seem to suggest that Marvel Studios may abandon the film altogether out of sheer spite.
BC's report is incredibly flimsy and should be taken with a massive grain of salt until we hear otherwise, but I can see how, freed of the obligations of reporting to Perlmutter and incorporating his ideas, Feige and the rest of the people at Marvel Studios might want to go their own way and avoid Inhumans, since they haven't made any major references to those characters in any of the MCU films thus far. So while it sounds vaguely plausible, we'll have to wait and see how it shakes out.
