James Gunn Confirms GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Will Happen

We haven't even seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 yet, but the fans already know that they're going to want to see more of these characters! After the Guardians team up with the Avengers in Avengers: Infinity War, it looks like we'll see the team of misfits join up again for another adventure in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The news comes from director James Gunn himself in an interview with Complex. When asked if there were any plans for a third film, he said:

“There will be a Guardians 3, that's for sure. We're trying to figure it out. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do really, that's all it is. I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing.
"You know, I'm going to make another big movie; is it the Guardians or something else? I'm just going to figure it out over the next couple of weeks."

I imagine that after Vol. 2 is released, Gunn will be able to direct a non-Guardians film if he wanted to before he jumps back in for a third chapter of the franchise. It might be good for him. The fact of the matter is, he'll have the time to do both if he wanted to. When previously asked if he would come back to direct a Vol. 3, he said:

"Right now I really am just concerned with doing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I’m not sure what I’m going to do after this… Marvel has talked to me about continuing on. I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do or if that’s not what I want to do. I really just want to make Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the greatest possible movie that I can, and something that’s as honest and sincere and true as it can possibly be.”

It's hard to believe that Gunn wouldn't be back to write and direct Vol. 3, he just loves these character too much to pass them off to another director at this point. While we wait to see what Gunn does next, and before I even think about what a third Guardians of the Galaxy film will even entail, we still have to watch Vol. 2

It's comforting to know that there are plans in place to bring them back after Infinity War.
