James Wan Set to Direct New Premiere Episode of CBS' MACGYVER Reboot
James Wan is officially set to direct the first episode of CBS' upcoming series reboot of MacGyver. Wan is one of my favorite directors, who most recently directed The Conjuring 2. He's also got a few other film projects lined up such as Aquaman and Robotech, so he's keeping himself busy!
Wan made a name for himself reinvigorating the horror franchise, and it's great to see that he's playing around with different genres. Wan had already been set to direct the premiere episode, but he ended up dropping out due to his busy schedule. It looks like he managed to squeeze in some time!
According to Variety, "Since the show was picked up to series, CBS decided to scrap the original pilot and shoot a new premiere episode, retaining Lucas Till and George Eads from the original pilot but otherwise adding an entirely new cast."
Wan is also a producer on the series, and he obviously wants to make sure he and the network deliver a top quality show. That original pilot episode must have sucked. There's no doubt that Wan is going to deliver something awesome. Hopefully, the other directors that are hired to direct the following episodes of the series are able to keep the series quality to the standard set by Wan.
You can watch the trailer for the first version of the first episode below. It doesn't look very good, so it's good that Wan is coming in to make it better.
