Jamie Foxx & Michelle Monaghan to Star in Remake of French Action Film SLEEPLESS NIGHT
By now, there have been so many American adaptations of foreign films that we should be used to the idea of American studios piggybacking off of the success of other countries' movies. Such is the case with Sleepless Night, a 2011 French action film that received a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, because that film is now getting a remake. Variety reports that Jamie Foxx and True Detective star Michelle Monaghan are set to lead the cast, and someone named Baran Bo Odar is directing.
Action junkies will get a kick out of the original film, which followed a crooked cop who must save his son when a drug deal goes south. It's a fast-paced story, and one that both Foxx and Monaghan should be well-suited to remake. I'm tired of hearing complaints about how Hollywood is all out of original ideas — the current business model leans heavily on there being an established audience for a property before it gets the greenlight, so I'm not surprised at all that a film like this is being remade for the stateside crowd. Open Road is financing and distributing the movie, though no release date has been set.
