Japanese Actor Takeshi "Beat" Kitano Joins Cast of GHOST IN THE SHELL

Director Rupert Sanders has cast Japanese actor Takeshi “Beat” Kitano in his big screen live-action adaptation of Ghost the Shell. Kitano is an iconic actor in Japan who hasn't starred in an American film since Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Mnemonic in 1995.

The actor will take on the role of Daisuke Aramaki, who is the founder and leader of the elite task force Section 9 which is devoted to stopping dangerous criminals and extremists. Scarlett Johansson plays the lead in the film as a female Special Ops cyborg that is a part of Section 9.

Kitano also joins Michael Pitt, who is playing the villain in the story who's known as the Laughing Man. The character is described as "a bitter and vengeful man with a body that is part robot. He has a unique sense of style and has been described as a bad guy filtered through the lens of a street artist."

Paramount will release the film in the U.S. on March 31, 2017. At least we know there will be at least one Japanese actor in the movie.
