Jimmy Olsen Cast in SUPERGIRL Series

CBS has cast Necessary Roughness actor Mehcad Brooks to co-star alongside Glee's Melissa Benoist in their adaptation of DC Comics' Supergirl. He will be taking on the role of Jimmy Olsen, and he doesn't look like the bumbling, nerdy kid we all imagined he'd be. This guy looks like he could easily sweep any girl off their feet, and he also looks like he could kick some ass if he needed to.

THR reports that in the series, Olsen is a photographer at CatCo., which is where Kara works as well. He's described as being "the salt of the earth [which] only makes Kara crush on him even more." The report goes on to say that "the character has recently been living and working in National City though the reason is still a secret. As Kara emerges as Supergirl they grow closer."

I don't recall Olsen and Supergirl ever having a thing for each other. That should make for an interesting dynamic. I'm looking forward to seeing how this series turns out. I love what I've seen with Green Arrow, The Flash, and Gotham. This has the potential to be just as good.

The hour-long drama centers on Kara Zor-El (Benoist), Superman's cousin, who "was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. After arriving on Earth, she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her superpowers."

Now 24, Kara feels un-empowered, a slave to having repressed her innate abilities. She's still pretty, but with her face hidden behind glasses and her hair pulled back, she doesn't know it herself. An unexpected disaster forces her to use her powers in public. Energized by her heroic deed, for the first time in her life, Kara begins embracing her extraordinary abilities. She begins helping the people of her city and they soon take notice — and she's even given a new moniker: Supergirl.

Arrow and The Flash's Greg Berlanti is writing the script with Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family) and they will executive produce the drama for Warner Bros. Television.
