Joe Quesada Says Jon Bernthal's Punisher Will Blow Hardcore Fans Away

Fans are looking forward to seeing The Punisher in action when he's introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the second season of Daredevil. The character is being played by Jon Bernthal, and everything I've seen of him so far looks great. We have yet to see him actually act in the part, though.

While talking to IGN, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada spoke a little bit about what’s in store for Frank Castle. It was previously rumored that in the process of trying to figure out what to do with Iron Fist, Marvel would give The Punisher a spin-off series first. We don't know if there's any truth to that, but Quesada says:

"I think we’d love to see something happen [with a Punisher series], but it’s way too soon to tell, and we don’t necessarily like to discuss which metrics we use to decide these things."

He goes on to say that hardcore fans of The Punisher are going to be blown away by how Bernthal portrays the character:

"But what I can tell you is anyone who is a hardcore Punisher fan is going to be blown away and incredibly satisfied by Bernthal’s take on Frank Castle. It’s one of those cases where it’s the character from the pages come to life.”

That's exciting to hear! It will be cool to finally be able to see him in action so we can form an opinion for ourselves. Quesada was also asked about the Iron Fist rumor, and this is all he said about it:

“Iron Fist is being worked on. That’s all that I can say."

So it's still up in the air whether or not Iron Fist will be developed as a series or a Netflix movie. As far as The Defenders go, and the superhero lineup that Marvel is planning for them, Quesada says:

“You have to understand, to the world at large, nobody knows who The Defenders are. So to take the concept, the name and the theme and apply it to this world feels wholly natural. Even when you look at the origins how the Defenders book came about, it was just another super hero team that wasn’t the Avengers. We have a wonderful concept behind why they’re this group and why they’re called The Defenders and why they would exist in this particular world.”

Everything that Marvel and Netflix are doing together is pretty exciting. It will be interesting to see if any of these characters ever make it to the big screen. What do you all think about Quesada's comments regarding The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders?
