John Boyega Says STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII Is Darker and Bigger Than THE FORCE AWAKENS
It’s been fun reading about all the story rumors about Star Wars: Episode VIII. I’m curious to see what ends up being true and what ends up being false, but there sure has been some crazy talk, which you can catch up on here. One thing we know for sure is that this next film in the new trilogy is going to be different from J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens. We’ve heard several people involved with the film talk about Rian Johnson’s unique take on the story.
While talking about the next chapter in the Star Wars saga with Variety, John Boyega offered a few bits of information on the tone of the film. He said that it will be bigger and darker than the last movie. When asked about transitioning from working with Abrams to Johnson, the actor said:
“It’s very easy. Rian Johnson is great. It’s a different take, darker, bigger. Someone will say: ‘How do you get bigger than Force Awakens?’ But it’s crazy.”
Boyega was asked about the romance between Finn and Rey, which was kind of a silly question because there was no romance between the two in The Force Awakens. He said:
“They’re just friends. Finn is a storm trooper, so he doesn’t really know what’s going on. So the romance thing is something that’s going to be interesting in the next installment. It’s not going to go the way you think it’s going to go.”
The last question that the actor was asked was is if Finn gets darker, to which Boyega replied:
“My skin color does because of the heat on the job! That’s me dodging your question because Disney has spies everywhere. If I answer this, I get killed, and I’m not in episode nine.”
I loved the characters that Abrams and Lucasfilm set up for this next installment of the Star Wars saga, and I can’t wait to see where exactly the story takes them. I don’t think Finn will give in to the Dark Side and go back to the Empire, because it doesn’t seem like it’s in his nature. But you never know!
