Joss Whedon Called Marvel Before Taking The BATGIRL Directing Gig at Warner Bros.

Fans exploded with excitement when they heard that Joss Whedon would be writing and directing a Batgirl movie for Warner Bros. We all know the guy is going to make a kick ass Batgirl film!

As you know, Whedon has a strong relationship with Marvel as he directed the first two Avengers films and he worked with them in developing several films in their pipeline over the years. As it turns out, he made sure to call up Marvel and talk to them while he was in talks with WB for the Batgirl gig. When asked about what he thought about Whedon directing Batgirl, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said:

“He called a couple months ago, which he didn’t have to do and was super cool of him and super nice of him. And we couldn’t be more supportive. We want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome.”

As you may have heard, Whedon became frustrated with Marvel Studios during the production of Avengers: Age of Ultron over certain creative decisions, but he has said time and time again that he would work with Marvel again if the right project presented itself, like a Black Widow solo movie.

There's obviously no bad blood between Whedon and Marvel Studios and it would be cool to see them work together again one day. But that doesn't really matter right now because Whedon is directing Batgirl and I can't wait to see what he does with it!
