Jude Law on Turning Down Brett Ratner's SUPERMAN
I never knew this, but Jude Law was one of the many actors who almost played Superman in director Brett Ratner's 2002 effort Superman: Flyby. Law was Ratner's first choice and the actor was very reluctant to sign on.
Law relates the story of what happened to MTV.
“At the time, I really didn’t want to. I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life being that guy who played Superman."
In a final push, Ratner convinced Law to try on the costume.
“I go in the bathroom, put it on and look in the mirror, and suddenly, I am Superman. And it is an amazing costume. My chest pops up and the music comes on… That was it. I got it out of my system. I took it off, put it in the bag, and was like, ‘I’m not going to do it.’ I saw myself, No need for the rest of the world to see me.”
Given Ratner's current track record, it seemed like a wise choice. After Law walked away from the Superman reboot, it quickly fell apart. As much as I like Law, I can't really picture him as Superman and he just seems too dashing to pull off Clark Kent.
