JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Reportedly Moving Into Production in 2016, Plus Plot Details
After it was reported that director Guillermo del Toro was no longer attached to Warner Bros. Justice League Dark movie, I thought that meant the project was dead, but it doesn't seem like that's the case at all.
According to The Tracking Board, producer Scott Rudin has jumped on the film project, which is being called Dark Universe, and Del Toro will also stay on as a producer. It makes sense that Del Toro wouldn't completely walk away. After all, he spent years developing the project.
The report says, "Sources confirm that Rudin is moving quickly on this one, making updates to the script and approaching directors. The project is now a priority for Warner Bros., with our sources also reporting that the studio is looking to shoot the superhero team-up film in 2016."
There are also some additional details on the plot of the film. The story reportedly involves "a series of ancient tomes stolen by a madman hellbent on the destruction of humanity. When he learns of this, occult detective John Constantine seeks out a group of heroes that specialize in the mystic and arcane in order to save the world. Though the film’s heroes have not yet been announced, save for Constantine, Del Toro had mentioned that Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan The Demon will likely make up the team."
I really wanted to see this movie get made. It's unfortunate that Del Toro won't be directing it, though. I have no doubt that he would have given fans something amazing. If this news is legit, hopefully, Rudin and Del Toro are able to find a talented director who is suited for the project.
