Justin Lin Confirms STAR TREK BEYOND Title and Posts Starfleet Logo

Director Justin Lin officially confirmed on Twitter last night that the title of the next Star Trek film will be Star Trek Beyond as previously rumored. Yesterday was his first day of shooting the sequel, and he also shared a photo featuring the Starfleet logo. The image came with the following caption:

“Let the next Starfleet voyage begin! #StarTrekBeyond #LLAP”

There’s still no information on the story the movie will tell, but it will finally see the crew set out on their five year mission, exploring new worlds and new civilizations. They will boldly go where no man has gone before!

Lin previously talked about his plans for the franchise saying:

"As great as JJ’s films were, there’s still a lot to be mined from these characters. They haven’t really gone on their five-year mission, so what we experienced in the TV show hasn’t been touched on yet. That sets up an opportunity for exploration and the deeper you go, the more you are examining humanity. Those are the things that I absorbed as a kid and hope to tap into and embrace and celebrate. By the time this movie comes out, Star Trek will have been around for 50 years."

He went on to say that they created new worlds and species for the Star Trek universe, which should prove to be very interesting. Hopefully Lin continues to tease fans with more Star Trek goodness from the set of the film on his Twitter account.

Star Trek Beyond will be released on July 8th, 2016. I’m excited to see if this next film takes audiences on a fresh a new direction.
