Kenneth Branagh May Direct MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS Remake

This is really strange. Earlier this morning, I was just randomly thinking about how I should rewatch the 1974 film Murder on the Orient Express since I haven't seen it in about five years or so and I've forgotten all of the story's twists and turns. I wasn't even aware 20th Century Fox was working on a remake, but apparently they are, and now word has hit that Thor and Cinderella director Kenneth Branagh has been tapped to direct it.

The Wrap reports that Branagh is in talks to helm the project, while Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg, and Mark Gordon are lined up to produce. Michael Green (Smallville, Blade Runner 2) wrote the screenplay.

The film is based on Agatha Christie's 1934 novel of the same name, and follows detective Hercule Poirot as he attempts to solve the murder of an American businessman that occurred on a cross-country train. The 1974 film starred Albert Finney, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery, Lauren Bacall, Anthony Perkins, and many more, and 20th Century Fox is hoping to secure a modern A-list cast for the remake.

The '74 film is solid, and I'd recommend giving it a watch if you haven't seen it before. I know I'll be checking it out again before I see this remake, which sounds like it's still at least a year or so from hitting theaters.
