Kevin Feige Discusses The Infinity Stones in DOCTOR STRANGE

A lot has been said about the upcoming Doctor Strange movie. Of course, the full range of emotions is currently being displayed on the internet. I read that it is going to be the next Matrix — like that is a bad thing. If I remember correctly, The Matrix was every fanboy's wet dream at the time, so why is this comparison a bad thing? The other side of the coin can’t wait for the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I am on the “I can’t wait!” side of things. I think the world that director Scott Derrickson has created is beautiful and fits right in with the rest of the MCU. With that being said, the question remains, how will this movie fit into the mix with the current direction the MCU is going? Where in the MCU timeline will this movie take place?

We first heard the name Stephen Strange when it was dropped by Jasper Sitwell while he was being interrogated by Captain America and Falcon in The Winter Soldier. Was Strange already in training at that time? The only person that can answer that one is the head honcho over at Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige. Luckily for all of us, Comicbook.com took a trip to the set of Doctor Strange last winter, and they came back with some rather useful nuggets of information.

Here is what Feige had to say about the conversation on the roof regarding Strange:

"He is very well-known as a surgeon. He has got various awards and plaques you're going to see over there; he attends various galas, might be driving at one point in this movie. He has name recognition and a talent and certain Hydra computers identified him as somebody that could cause trouble for their agendas."

So, at the time of The Winter Soldier, Strange wasn’t an immediate threat to Hydra but a person of interest, meaning that their drone strike on Strange would have been a justified one from a bad guy's standpoint, because a mere two years later we will see Doctor Strange become one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe.

Speaking of the MCU, there has been a pretty solid thread weaving through the movies, and that is Thanos and his quest to collect the Infinity Stones. The Stones have popped up in many of the MCU movies in some shape or form. With that being said, are we going to see any hint of them in Doctor Strange? This question was also answered at the interview on the Doctor Strange set with Feige:

"If you're tracking such things, perhaps, but we don't get into it in this movie."

When pressed for more info, he said:

"It's close; you can look at for as long as you want. Again, there's a lot to take in this movie, there's a lot of new concepts, there's a lot of new characters, there's a lot of new mythologies that we didn't want to clutter up by talking about other [mcguffins]."

It sounds like we won’t be seeing them, but you never know, he might be using trickery on us.

I am anxiously awaiting the release of this film in November. Are you?
