Krysten Ritter Teases Jessica Jones and Daredevil’s Relationship in THE DEFENDERS - “This is a Reluctant Team”

Last week, we got our first look at Marvel’s The Defenders gathered together along with a cool photoshoot for them. Those photos featured Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist).

We now have some interviews being released by EW, and the first one comes from Ritter, who talks about what Jessica Jones is going through mentally when The Defenders picks up and also talks about her relationship with Daredevil. About her character, she says:

“She’s still dealing with the aftermath of Kilgrave, and now she’s dealing with ‘success’ — and not well. People want her to work for them, she’s getting a lot of business, and she’s not ready for any of that. She hasn’t changed, but her environment has, and there’s no handbook for how to exist in a world where you are now popular.”

Showrunner Marco Ramirez adds:

“She’s gloriously the most reluctant hero in the world. She’s going to have to let three men into her life who she doesn’t 100 percent trust.”

The site goes on to reveal that so far, Ritter has shot most of her scenes with Cox’s Daredevil, and when talking about the relationship between the characters, she explains that it’s a “cat-and-mouse” dynamic. When talking about who is the cat and who is the mouse, she says:

“It switches back and forth, to be honest. No one’s best friends in all of the Defenders. This is a reluctant team-up.”

I love that fact that these heroes are reluctant to be fighting alongside each other. That aspect of these hardcore characters will make for a fascinating dynamic. Ritter then goes on to discuss her thoughts on the script when she first read it:

“When I read the first two scripts, I was like, ‘Wow, this is going to be big,’ because it’s so fun seeing these huge characters, and not just the four of us, but all of us in one show. This just has a big scope. It’s a much bigger world, because all of our characters have a very specific way in, a specific beat.”

The Defenders is set to hit Netflix this summer, and I can’t wait!
