Legendary CEO Thomas Tull Optimistic About PACIFIC RIM 2

Pacific Rim was such a ridiculously fun movie to watch last year. I absolutely loved it, and I really want to see a sequel. We know that Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham have ideas and plans for a sequel and that they were actually writing it last year, but we don't know how far along they are or where the project currently stands. While promoting Godzilla, Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull talked to Collider and gave an optimistic update on Pacific Rim 2, and it sounds like he wants to make it happen!

We love being in business with Guillermo and frankly that movie, if you look it up, did I think more business than the first X-Men, did more than Batman Begins, our first movie, did more than Superman Returns, The Fast and the Furious, Star Trek- so for a movie that was an original property that we made up it’s done really well. It did north of 400 million dollars globally and both the home video sales and the merchandise have way over-indexed, so it seems like fans really loved the world. So we’re going to sit down with Guillermo and as long as we think it’s authentic and there’s something to say, we’re certainly open to it.

Let's hope that everything comes together for this movie, because I know fans would love to see it happen! Here's some information about the sequel that Del Toro perviously revealed,

"I’ll tell you a couple of things. We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure. Second thing is you’re gonna see a merging of Kaiju and Jaeger. And that is quite special."

Del Toro went on to explain how that is possible:

"Just think about it for a second. We sent Gipsy to the other side, right? It exploded, but whatever remains stays there. We’ve drifted with a Kaiju brain. Well, then start riffing on that and you’ll get to something."

There's no doubt that this sequel could be insanely cool.
