Let's Talk About POWER RANGERS UNIVERSE #2

The second issue of Power Rangers Universe has dropped. We’ve gotten some more information about what the heck is going on in this series and there are some big developments. I have some questions, but am sure I’ll get answers by the end of the series. You can read the comic now before the spoiler break from your local comic store or other favorite comic retailers including comiXology (affiliate link). Power Rangers Universe #2 is written by Nicole Andelfinger and features art by Simone Ragazzoni, colors by Mattia Iacono, and letters by Ed Dukeshire.

Discover the truth behind the Phantom Ranger, the Morphin Masters, Power Rangers, and the Morphin Grid itself in the series that will unlock the secrets of the Power Rangers Universe! In the ancient past, six teens scramble inside the Masterforge to save a mysterious figure they rescue from the Morphin Grid. But in doing so, they strand themselves from their parents, the Morphin Masters, who ascend into the Grid itself to protect it from Dark Specter. Can they protect Earth and the Grid itself from the impending forces headed their way? That question will have to wait, because first they must defend themselves against…a T-Rex attack!

Picking up from the preview, the Morphin Masters are struggling to get to the Arch because there is basically an army of creatures that seem like a proto-Putty (albeit scarier) to me. Ori makes a pretty big decision and actually ends up destroying the Arch which means that our little group is stranded. This is pretty big because Ori has just cut themselves off from their family, Kartor, by doing this and you can tell that both are not happy about this. I am glad that Ori seemingly does get to hear Kartor say that they love something. It cuts off, but I think it’s safe to assume Kartor meant Ori.

The Morphinaut gets some action moments where he takes out some of the bad guys. He’s on borrowed time though. There’s so much Morphin Grid Energy coursing through him that he’s very unstable. He does look pretty awesome doing it though. During one of these encounters, we learn a very big discovery. These footsoldiers, aren’t just clay or monsters. As you may have picked up from the preview, these are other beings corrupted by Dark Specter and controlled by him. In fact, one of the soldiers gets rescued and turns out to be Xev who I guess is Telosi’s brother. Does this mean that the Morphinaut just killed some innocent people being controlled by Dark Spector? I don’t know how I feel about this development. They can’t control their actions in their current state, but are potentially being killed. That’s kind of dark, especially for Power Rangers.

Grid Energy is Dark Specter’s kryptonite which is why it’s so effective. That’s also why Dark Specter wants to get to the Grid. He wants to destroy the Grid. It comes up that Ori’s prototype Arch could potentially get everyone to the Grid and the Morphinaut charges them with getting through and then destroying the Arch while he does what he can to take down Dark Specter’s forces. Ori has an idea though to help them and help stabilize the Morphinaut. They want to channel the excess Energy from the Morphinaut into our team’s Morphin Hearts. In theory, this would give them more power and help the Morphinaut from being torn apart. A win-win, right? Well, yes. It ends up working and giving each of them cool suits and powers that fans will recognize. We have Mighty Morphin Red, Zeo Blue, Time Force Pink, Dino Thunder Yellow, Wild Force Black, and Ninja Storm Green. They’re all very excited about the new looks and power when a new enemy arrives and he looks tougher than the others. It should be noted that the Morphinaut states that Dark Specter cannot take a physical form yet. That last word isn’t ominous at all.

This is where one of my big questions comes into play. I understood that we were going to see a team based on Dairanger and so I thought when they morphed it would be those outfits. Instead, we got familiar suits. Don’t get me wrong, it’s cool to see this group combination. I just am curious how we reach the Dairanger stage.
