Lionsgate Announces JOHN WICK 2, Keanu Reeves and Original Directors Returning
Lionsgate just sent out a press release confirming development of John Wick 2, which had been rumored for the past couple of months. Keanu Reeves will return to reprise the title role, while directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch will be back behind the camera and writer Derek Kolstad is back to pen the screenplay. The plot is being kept under wraps for now, but the studio released this logline:
In the follow up to last year’s adrenaline-fueled revenge and redemption thriller, legendary hit man John Wick is back.
John Wick was one of the biggest action surprises of last year, and the movie has a very vocal group of fans that I'm sure will be thrilled to see a sequel. In an interview from two months ago, Stahelski said:
“We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original. It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important. If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it."
It's clear that Reeves had a good time playing this almost-mythical character, and I'm excited to see how these directors can top the action of the first movie. This could easily turn into a full-on franchise over the next few years, and I'll take more movies like John Wick than crap like Taken 3 any day of the week, so I'm glad that all of the major players are coming back for more. What do you think?
