Live Version of Aaron Sorkin's A FEW GOOD MEN Coming to NBC in 2017
The trend of live TV events continues. The Wrap has announced that Aaron Sorkin's stage play A Few Good Men will be getting a live version on NBC in 2017.
This comes on the heels of Grease, The Wiz, Peter Pan, and The Sound of Music getting their own live TV adaptations, but this will be the first non-musical production of the past few years to get that treatment. A Few Good Men received a film adaptation in 1992 and earned a Best Picture nomination. I wonder if millennial audiences have ever seen this movie or know anything about it other than the iconic line "You can't handle the truth!" If the breathlessly-paced film is any indication, this might play well to those who are currently addicted to dramas that play out in courtrooms like The Jinx and Making a Murderer.
Sorkin, who wrote the stage play and the film's screenplay, will also write the new stage adaptation and executive produce alongside Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
I do not envy whoever is cast in the role of Colonel Nathan Jessup, because following Jack Nicholson's performance is going to be extremely difficult. Actually, the whole cast of the film did a terrific job, from Nicholson to Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and Kevin Pollack, all the way down to actors with smaller roles like Kevin Bacon and Kiefer Sutherland. It'll be interesting to see if the network goes after actors with some star power to fill this cast.
