Lock and Load: JOHN WICK 3 is Already in Development

Before we go any further, I wanted to share this poster for John Wick: Chapter 2 with you because I don't think we wrote about it when it dropped at the end of last week. Pretty great, isn't it? Man, I can't wait to see this movie — especially after watching the trailer that debuted this past weekend.

So John Wick: Chapter 2 hits theaters on February 10, 2017, but will that be the end of the line for our embattled former hitman? Hell no! Collider caught up with director Chad Stahelski at New York Comic Con, and he revealed that a third film is in early development:

“The studio has asked us to put our heads together and see if we can come up with something. [Ian McShane's character] Winston is a big part of the next one, so is Lance Reddick. We’ve got some ideas.”

It looks as if the filmmakers ambitiously expanded the scope between the first and second movies by taking the action global (Wick is in Rome in Chapter 2), so while part of me legitimately wants to see them continue to expand the story to its logical conclusion and have Keanu Reeves' Wick fighting other hitmen in space, a bigger (more realistic) part of me would be just fine with seeing more contained action and deeper character development all around. Part of the reason the first movie worked so well was because it didn't involve saving the world — it was a personal revenge story, and I'm sure these guys are smart enough to know that keeping the story on a personal level is the best course for this franchise moving forward.

What do you think should happen in John Wick: Chapter 3? Are you excited to see Chapter 2 in a few months?

Update: An earlier version of this post referred to the director as "David Stahelski," a combination of David Leitch and Chad Stahelski (the co-directors of the first John Wick). Sorry about that — it's been updated with the proper name.
