Mark Ruffallo on AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and Banner's Role in Ultron's Creation
Mark Ruffallo has offered up some really interesting information regarding Bruce Banner's role in working along side Tony Stark in Avengers: Age of Ultron. In an interview with Total Film the actor reveals that he also had a hand in the creation of the villain Ultron.
"Banner's been living in Stark Tower. They've been working side by side and Bruce has his own lab now. He's doing work that augments Tony's own, which could lead to an experiment going wrong."
I knew those guys would get themselves into trouble. The decisions they make together lead them to eventually fighting each other, and friends like that aren't supposed to fight. He also talks about his deepening relationship with Black Widow:
"His relationship with Natasha deepens. There's something similar about the two of them. I see them as lost souls. They're kindred in some ways."
As for what's in store for the Hulk, the actor says,
"He does feel more comfortable with himself. His confidence is getting better. But, you know, that gets shaken. His ability to handle the Hulk really gets thrown into question in this film. The hard part is coming back. Hulk doesn't want to cede his place. It's much harder to come back from being Hulk than it is to get into him."
"I think there's a whole other chapter we haven't seen yet where you find the other nuances within him. The battle of identity going on between him and Banner is all about establishing dominance. The only thing that Hulk is really afraid of is Banner. That's an interesting dynamic."
I'm glad that this is a dynamic of the character that they are exploring in this film. It's something we haven't really seen done previously. We've heard that the Hulk is going to have a much more prominent role in the film, and now we know more about his story arc in it. Ruffallo then goes on to explain that even though the movie looks dark, there will be humor:
"What Joss is going after is really big. But there's still lots of laughs. There's some goofy stuff. I mean, it's Whedon!"
Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out on May 1st, 2015.
