Marvel Is Looking at These Two Young Actors for Spider-Man
Marvel and Sony Pictures are pretty much looking to reboot Spider-Man all over again, but this time it looks like they are going to do it right, especially with Marvel on board to help steer the character in the right direction.
Yesterday we learned that the studios are looking to recast Spider-Man and Peter Parker as a younger character who is still in high school. I know we've already seen this twice already, but I seriously don't think they are going to give us another origin story of the character. After all, they are going to introduce him in Captain America: Civil War, and there's no room for an origin story there. The report does say, though, that the plan is for the character to spend more time in the High School setting and "explore his awkward relationship with other students while fighting crime out of the classroom."
Thanks to Variety, we've learned two young actors are being considered for the part of Spider-Man. Those actors are Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) and Logan Lerman (Fury). I'd be happy to see either one of these actors land the role. If I had to choose just one, though, I'd have to go with Lerman. The guy just seems to have the natural Peter Parker vibe to him. Also, as much as I enjoyed O'Brien in The Maze Runner, Lerman is a much better actor. You can check out some of our other casting suggestions here if you want, but I like the idea of Lerman suiting up and kicking some ass.
The report goes on to say that no actors have been approached for the role yet, but it's going to happen eventually. They also explains that the studio is still trying to figure out "whether it wants to go with another Peter Parker or introduce another character that suits up as Spider-Man, including Miles Morales." Seeing as they are currently looking at O'Brien and Lerman to take on the part, I'd say they've already made up their minds. That could change, though.
Sony Pictures is also actively on the hunt for a new director to take on the new Spider-Man franchise. Hopefully Marvel helps out with that, as they have a knack for hiring talented directors.
With Spider-Man set to appear in Civil War, a casting decision is going to need to be made soon, so stay tuned! We'll keep you updated.
