Marvel's Spider-Man Solo Film Might be Called SPIDER-MAN: THE NEW AVENGER

When it was reported that writer and director Drew Goddard would be developing the solo Spider-Man movie for Marvel and Sony, there was talk of the film being called Spectacular Spider-Man. Now it seems things may have changed. According to former Latino Review reporter Umberto Gonzales the working title of the film will be Spider-Man: The New Avenger. This is an unconfirmed rumor at the moment, but here's what he's reporting:

"Take with the tiniest grain of salt pending further confirmation. I'm being told the working title for the untitled SPIDER-MAN stand alone film is SPIDER-MAN: THE NEW AVENGER Again, it's Sunday so take with grain pending further confirmation. What do you think of title?"

I think the title definitely works for the film, especially since it fits right in with other  titles of the Marvel cinematic universe, most notably Captain America: The First Avenger. It also makes it very clear to general audiences that this version of Spider-Man exists in the same universe as the Avengers, not the universe of the previous Spider-Man films. I'm sure Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is going to do everything he can to distance these new films from the the ones that have already been made. It also confirms to audiences that Spider-Man will in fact be joining the Avengers superhero team.

There are no other details at the moment, but we'll keep you updated! In the meantime, let us know what you think of the possible title. The film will be released on July 28th, 2017.
