Matthew McConaughy Cast in Stephen King's THE STAND?
A few months ago it was rumored that Matthew McConaughy (Interstellar) was wanted for the villainous role of Randall Flagg in the feature adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand. The Guardian is now reporting that the actor is going to take the role, which is pretty awesome. I think He'll be great as the character.
The big screen adaptation is being directed by Josh Boone, who recently revealed that the studio plans on splitting it into four films. This is what he said about that:
"So I think we are going to do like four movies. I can’t tell you anything about how we’re going to do them, or what’s going to be in which movie. I’ll just say we are going to do four movies, and we’re going to do THE STAND at the highest level you can do it at, with a cast that’s going to blow people’s minds. We’ve already been talking to lots of people, and have people on board in certain roles that people don’t know about. We’re looking to go into production next year, maybe in the spring."
Flagg has been described by King as "an accomplished sorcerer and a devoted servant of the Outer Dark." He has supernatural abilities involving necromancy, prophecy, and influence over animal and human behavior. His goals basically involve bringing down civilizations through destruction and conflict. The character has appeared in several of King's stories. In The Stand, Flagg is a devilish figure who wreaks havoc after a plague kills most of the world's population.
