Mesmerizing Trailer for Park Chan-wook's New Film THE HANDMAIDEN

Park Chan-wook, the filmmaker behind Oldboy, Thirst, and Stoker, has made a new film called The Handmaiden, and today we have a teaser trailer for you watch. I’m a huge fan of Park’s work, and the trailer for his next film is absolutely mesmerizing. It’s a truly great trailer, and if you’re a fan of his films then I’m sure you’re gonna love what you see here.

The movie based on the novel Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. The story is set in Japan and Korea in the 1930s. It follows a woman who is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress, but secretly she is involved in a plot to defraud her. In an interview with the Korea Times, the director said:

“The film will provide subtle pleasures here and there, because it is a very talkative and charming film with witty lines. It is the most unusual [film] out of my filmography. I chose this piece after Stoker because I was completely taken with the plot. I read the original English novel Fingersmith by Sarah Waters and it was mesmerizing. The characters were so real and the plot had a shocking reversal. I had been thinking since then that I should definitely make this into a film.”

The movie is being released by Amazon, and it’s set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie stars Ha Jung-woo, Kim Min-hee, Jo Jin-woong, and Kim Tae-ri, and I included some character posters below.
