Michael Cera Dealt Into Aaron Sorkin's Directorial Debut MOLLY'S GAME
Looks like Jessica Chastain has some company in Aaron Sorkin's feature directorial debut, Molly's Game. THR says that Michael Cera is in talks to join her in the remarkable true story of a woman named Molly Bloom, a former Olympic hopeful who went from a Los Angeles cocktail waitress to running secret poker games for some of Hollywood's biggest A-list actors (including Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tobey Maguire).
Chastain is playing Molly, and if Cera's deal goes through, he'll portray a poker player designated Player X, described as "an elite player who happens to be a celebrity who develops a unique relationship with Bloom."
I have full confidence that Chastain will be able to handle Sorkin's rapid-fire dialogue, but Cera? If nothing else, he's shown that he's capable of adapting to all sorts of different styles over his career, from the stylized Scott Pilgrim vs. The World to the awkward physical comedy of Arrested Development and more, so perhaps I shouldn't underestimate him. No word yet on exactly when this one will go before cameras, but Cera plans to shoot a movie called Captain Dad with Will Ferrell and Catherine Keener before this starts rolling, so I imagine it'll be at least a couple of months.
