Michael Fassbender Gives Update On ASSASSIN'S CREED Film
Michael Fassbender has been attached to star in a film based on the video game series Assassin's Creed for years, and the film is finally getting underway later this year to hit its planned December 21st, 2016 release date. ComingSoon sat down with the actor during a press junket for his new western Slow West, and asked him a bit about the long-gestating adaptation:
“You say it’s a long time but what I’ve found — it’s all new to me but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time. It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It’s exciting. It’s going to start this year, we’ll be filming in September.”
We all assumed he'd be playing Desmond Miles, the protagonist of the first game in the series, but when the interviewer mentioned that, Fassbender cut him off and had a grin on his face when he said:
“You don’t know that. Don’t listen to what they tell you, that’s the first rule."
So if not Desmond Miles, who could he be playing? And which game will the film be using as inspiration? Fassbender offered a brief word on that topic as well:
“That’s always the challenge of something that’s so dense, to really find something and pare it down and basically, there are so many elements to it, so trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things. So yes, that is part of it, getting through the density of it and paring down and engaging a simple story.”
I haven't played all the way through an Assassin's Creed game since the second one, so I'd love to hear some suggestions from the gamers out there about which specific games they'd like to see adapted and who the actor should play. Fassbender is insanely talented, and it'll be interesting to see if he and co-star Marion Cotillard will be able to make one of the first (if not the first) really great video game movie.
