Michael Fassbender Shares Details on His New Robot Character Walter in ALIEN: COVENANT
I'm very curious about Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant. I've heard and written so much about it, but we still don't really know the main details of the story yet. Just a lot of bits and pieces of information that allow us to speculate about how things might play out.
We've got a few new details to add to the mix, and they focus on Michael Fassbender's artificial person character in the story. He's not playing the same character that he played in Prometheus. That character's name was David. In this film the character's name is Walter, and in a recent interview with Comingsoon, the actor offered up some new details on Walter.
“I think Walter’s a real different kettle of fish. David was definitely a work-in-progress, somewhat of a prototype I suppose. The elements of him that were the human elements I think people found a little disturbing, so Walter’s more of a straightforward robot. Pretty logical, much more of a servant without the ego.”
It's not hard to see the comparison to Ash from Alien and Bishop from Aliens. One was a little more level-headed than the other. The big question is, will Walter experience a glitch that makes him go a little nuts in Alien: Covenant? Only time will tell.
“Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the ‘synthetic’ David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”
The cast of the film also includes Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smolett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, and Billy Crudup. Noomi Rapace is also expected to come back to her role as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, and James Franco is said to have a role in the film as the Captain of the Covenant ship.
Alien: Covenant opens in theaters on October 6, 2017.
