Michael Fassbender Talks ASSASSIN'S CREED; Says They've Done Something Special
It seems fans are really excited to see how Michael Fassbender’s Assassin's Creed turns out. We’ve only seen a few images from the film, and now we’re waiting to see some actual footage. While we wait for that, the actor spoke about the expense of shooting the film:
"It was great. It was a huge learning experience. To be a producer on it as well was very educational. I think we’ve got something special. I think we’ve done something original in this genre."
The movie will not be a direct adaptation of the video franchise. The movie is set in the same universe, but it features a new character and the story runs parallel to events that we have seen in the game.
Fassbender is playing a character named Callum Lynch, who also has the same ability as Desmond Miles to use the Animus to travel back in time and relive events through the eyes of his ancestors. Fassbender went on to shed some new light on this character:
"He is an outsider. He’s been institutionalized from his early teens. He’s a little bit of a lost soul of sorts. He starts to identify [his] lineage and where he comes from in a way."
Here’s the synopsis:
Callum Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.
That’s definitely an interesting background story for the character. Assassin's Creed also stars Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Ariane Labed, Brendan Gleeson, and Jeremy Irons. It’s currently set for release on December 21st, 2016.
