Michael J. Fox on Why It Would Take "A Lot" of Money to Star in Another BACK TO THE FUTURE

2015 rages on, and as I'm sure you're all aware by now, this year marks the the 30th anniversary of the seminal time travel classic Back to the Future. I love this movie more and more every time I watch it, and for years I've been convinced it's the best script ever written. It's the perfect example of the kind of amazing storytelling that can happen when real time and effort are put into writing the story; all of its set-ups are paid off so wonderfully, and being able to go back and get more out of it on multiple viewings has certainly contributed to its classic status.

But don't expect star Michael J. Fox to get back in the DeLorean any time soon. At the London Film and Comic-Con, Fox took the stage with Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and a bunch of other cast members for a 30th anniversary panel, and the actor explained the biggest reason he wouldn't reprise his role: that damn car.

“I wish I had a video, a gag reel of how many times I was hit by that freakin’ door, the DeLorean door. Take after take, it would go, WHACK!
It was the worst thing to drive. It had two gears and I slammed the door, and my hand would smash into the flux capacitor. My hand would be bleeding, my head would be bleeding…and I had to clean it off to get to the Family Ties set.”
The money it would take to get me back into the DeLorean again is a LOT.

That's probably for the best, considering director Robert Zemeckis recently revealed that the studio isn't legally allowed to make another Back to the Future film until both he and co-writer Bob Gale are dead.

Thanks to the Radio Times for the quotes.
