Neill Blomkamp Has An Idea For DISTRICT 10 But It Will Have to Wait

The best feature film that Neill Blomkamp has made so far was District 9. Since then he has made Elysium and Chappie, but those last two films have not gone over well with audiences or critics. I actually enjoyed both movies regardless of what other people think, but I can see why people aren't liking them. The next film that he will be taking on is the next chapter in the Alien franchise, but I think people are a little worried about that now.

Regardless of all that, fans of District 9 have been wondering what is going on with the sequel District 10. We now have an update on that from the director in a recent interview with IGN in which he reveals that that he has an idea for the film, but it may be a while before we actually see it get made.

"I have an idea for District 10, which is really cool. The problem is I feel like Chappie is the end of three films that have a similar stylistic approach to them. Chappie is the odd one out in that is has no socio-political underpinnings. It doesn't have my experiences as a kid in South Africa incorporated into it. And Elysium– although it doesn't have my experiences as a kid in South Africa, it has the same notion of oppressor in the elites, and the large population base beneath it. And Chappie doesn't, but they are still part of a trilogy. So moving forward I would love to realize this idea of District 10 – I have every intention to do it, I just need to find the right time to do it – to not go back to Johannesburg and shoot something similar, yet."

Sounds like he wants to take a break from shooting in South Africa for a while, but it's good to know that he has an idea that he's excited about, and that he will eventually get to make it. One of the last things that we heard was that he had a 18-page story treatment done for District 10, but he has yet to offer any details on the story.
