Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN 5 Would Have Focused on Corporal Hicks and Newt

We have some more information on Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 that makes me wish even more that his movie was being made instead of Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant. I know there's still a chance that one day Blomkamp will get to make his movie, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon. At least not until Scott is done with what he wants to do with the franchise.

During an interview with Icons Of Fright, actor Michael Biehn offered some insight into the characters Alien 5 would have focused on. We all believed that Sigourney Weaver's Ripley would be the focus, but it turns out it actually would have been Corporal Hicks and a grown-up Newt. Biehn said:

"They’re planning on bringing me and Newt back and at this point Newt will be around twenty-seven years old. I know that every actress in Hollywood is going to want to play this one, it’s really a passing of the torch between Sigourney and this younger actress who would play Newt. It would keep the franchise alive and the studios would make money, because that’s what the bottom line is now: money. That’s why you end up seeing 'Terminator' 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 'The Fast And Furious' 7, 8, 9, and 10."

It really a great idea for a launching point to keep these films going. I always like the character Newt and I was so pissed off when Alien 3 killed her and Hicks off. That was one of the dumbest decisions ever made in the franchise, and I love that Blomkamp has found a way to bring them back for more action.

I really hope that one day this film gets made, but I'm not going to hold my breath. It seems like Ridley Scott just doesn't want it to happen. You can read up on all our Alien 5 movie news here. What do you think about what Biehn had to say about the direction the movie was headed?
