Netflix Announces a CASTLEVANIA TV Series Coming in 2017!
The hit video game franchise Castlevania is being developed as a TV series by Netflix! The news was tucked away in a press release from Netflix that simply said:
Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 Coming to Netflix in 2017
There are no details beyond that. I assume that this the same animated Castlevania project that was reportedly going into development about a month ago. Producer Fred Seibert (Fairly OddParents and producer for Adventure Time) previously said:
"We have a project right now that we’re doing that needs to go unnamed, based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years, that we’ve had in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started. But there were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going."
After a little research, it was revealed that Seibert owned the rights to Castlevania, and then prior to the statement above, Dredd producer Adi Shankar already broke the news:
Breaking News: I’m producing a super violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.
This Netflix series is most likely the same project, so I guess fans can expect to see an ultra-violent and dark Castlevania series later this year! Castlevania was one of my favorite video games to play when I was growing up. I have a nostalgic connection to it, and I can't wait to see how this new series turns out.
