New ALIEN Sequel to Give Ripley a “Proper Ending,” Will Ignore Last 2 Films
I’m insanely curious to see what exactly director Neill Blomkamp has planned for the Alien sequel that he’s officially set to direct. The concept art he posted kind of gives us an idea of where he was going with it, and it seems like it will include Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and Michael Biehn’s Corporal Hicks. We don’t really have any clue what the story will entail, though.
Weaver and Blomkamp are currently making the press rounds for his new film Chappie, and in an interview with Sky Movies, Weaver expresses her hope that the film will give her character Ripley a “proper finish,” and Blomkamp explains that he wants the movie to feel like a “Genetic Sibling” to James Cameron's Aliens. He makes it very clear that the movie will be a sequel to Aliens and pretend that Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection never happened. He explains it like this, “So it’s Alien, Aliens, and then this movie.” That’s definitely the smartest way to go about doing it (we talked about this exact scenario on our most recent podcast episode). I was never the biggest fan of those last two movies.
The sequel will be the director's next project, and they make it sound like this could be the final Alien film to close out the franchise. Make sure to check out the video interview below.
