New Details on Marvel’s Vision of SPIDER-MAN and Sony Deal
We already told you that Marvel is not interested in bringing Andrew Garfield back to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man if they take over the character. After the studio heard about all of the crazy ridiculous movie ideas that Sony had for the superhero, like the Aunt May origin story, which they ”severely disliked,” Marvel is looking to gain creative control over the character.
If Marvel does get the control they are looking for, they plan on "wiping the slate clean with Sony's Amazing Spider-Man universe.” They just don’t want to in any way continue with what Sony had done with the character, which makes sense.
According to Latino-Review if Marvel does get a hold of Spider-Man, one of the big changes they will bring is taking the focus "away from the romance and drama," which, as you know, was a was a very heavy element in Marc Webb's version. Apparently, Marvel believes that "romance has been played out over five installments already.” So it looks like romance will take a backseat in their version of Sider-Man and only be a side story.
What Marvel wants to do is put the focus back on Spider-Man the superhero and bring the character back to his true roots. The studio also believes "Spider-Man's origin is well-trodden territory, and any new Spider-Man movie in this new potential deal would begin with Peter Parker already leading a dual life as Spider-Man." Captain America: Civil War almost gave Spider-Man an introduction into the MCU, but as you’ve heard that is no longer happening. That’s ok, because another deal is in the works.
According to a recent rumor from Screen Gonzo, talks between Sony and Marvel will commence next year, and Marvel President Kevin Fiege wants producer Avi Arad out of the picture (Maybe because of this). Feige is said to by happy with how the deal is shaping up, which will include Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo developing a new trilogy.
Good grief, I hope we get news of a done deal on all of this Spider-Man craziness soon. It seems like it's eventually going to happen, it's just a matter of when.
