New WRECK-IT RALPH 2 Story Details Revealed Including a Nod to TRON

Yesterday Disney announced that they would finally be moving forward with Wreck-It Ralph 2. This is a sequel that we all knew was coming, but for some reason, it just took them a long time to actually announce it. I loved the first film, and I couldn't be more excited to see what's in store for the sequel. During an interview with Collider, director Rich Moore opened up a little bit about his upcoming film and revealed some details regarding the story and the possible inclusion of Tron.

We previously learned from John C. Reilly, who is the voice of Ralph, that “Ralph leaves the Arcade and wrecks the Internet.” Moore goes on to give a little more insight into the story saying that the sequel will take place in modern times:

“It’ll be just like the first one. So it will be exactly four years, or no, six years after the first Wreck-It Ralph. The current day timeline.”

He went on to say that there's a chance that the title of the sequel will be Super Wreck-It Ralph. When asked if this title was a possibility he said:

"You know what, it is definitely on the board. Since the day you said that, it was like, that’s a really good title. The one thing is because it’s so about the Internet and less about arcade games, it might not be the perfect fit. But spiritually, it is my favorite frontrunner right now. But I’m not sure if it’s going to make the cut, man. But it’s definitely in the running."

Moore also said that he's been working on the development for Wreck-It Ralph 2 for about two and half years and the first draft of the screenplay was complete before he started work on Zootopia. One thing that the director hopes to get into the film is Tron, and this is something I'm sure the fans would love to see as well. When asked about bringing Tron into the film he said:

"You know, I think like, 'Super Wreck-It Ralph is a great title,' and even like bringing up Tron, because I loved that game too, as a teenager. And we weren’t able to work it into the first one, and as of right now, I can tell you that there is a nod to Tron. If it will make it to the very end of the process, that’s always part of our journey. But definitely I’m a fan of that game and of those films, so it would be really nice to have it in."

Moore was then asked whether fans might see Ralph jumping onto a lightcycle in the sequel, which would be pretty cool to see. The director didn't shoot down the idea, he said that it could be a great gag, so who knows! Maybe something like that will happen in the movie.

The director went on to talk about the cast of the film. Both John C Reilly and Sarah Silverman are set to return as Ralph and Vanellope. Moore went on to hint that the film would also feature a large, diverse cast saying:

“If it were up to me, every character would have another scene or a moment because I love all those characters. I think it would be tough to bring King Candy/Turbo back from the dead, because that seemed pretty final, the way he went, but you never know. So, I think it’s looking right now like it’s going to be a big cast. I like making films with interesting characters and with a big, fun cast of different people. So we’re having a really good time of putting together who’s going to come back from the first one and who are the new characters that they’re going to meet.”

Wreck-It Ralph 2 is slated to hit theaters March 9th, 2018. I can't wait to see what exactly Moore and his team will give us in this sequel.
