NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM Director Helming Remake of John Carpenter's STARMAN

While movies like Jeff Nichols' Midnight Special and J.J. Abrams' Super 8 have some problems, I'd much rather see films like those that are clearly inspired by movies of the '80s but manage to do their own thing instead of yet another uninspired remake. But since name recognition is still a huge factor in getting movies made these days, it turns out that a remake of John Carpenter's sci-fi romance chase film Starman is on the way.

THR reports that Shawn Levy, the director of Night at the Museum, Real Steel, The Internship, and The Pink Panther will direct and produce, while Grace of Monaco screenwriter Arash Amel will write the script. Michael Douglas, who produced the original 1980 film starring Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen, will be back to serve in that capacity on the remake as well.
