NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD Origin Film Is Moving Forward

The son of director George Romero, Cameron Romero, is moving forward with his Night of the Living Dead origin film, which is apparently simply being called Origins.

The original Night of the Living Dead movie was released back in 1968, and the story follows seven people trapped in a rural farmhouse attacked by zombies. It was made on a budget of $140,000 and made over $30 million world wide. It’s a cult classic, and it spawned the zombie film genre.

The story for the origin film was developed by Cameron Romero, who is also set to direct from a screenplay he wrote with Darrin Reed and Bryce C. Campbell

The project is set at the height of the Cold War, when one scientist tried to give the world its best hope for survival and instead unleashed its worst nightmare.

Radar Pictures has come on board to produce the film after Romero launched a crowdfunding campaign back in October and raised over $30,000 for pre-production costs. Romero had this to say in a statement:

“Origins is a great opportunity for me to continue the family tradition of creating haunting and ever-evolving depictions of the undead, and a great opportunity for Romero fans to see a story of zombie inception never portrayed before.”

Hopefully he has the talent to bring the fans a film that they’ll enjoy. Production is set to start later this year. I think an origin story is an interesting way to go. I like that they are going with the Cold War setting. It will be fun to see a period zombie flick like this. I always like it when filmmakers decide to go retro.
