Nikolaj Arcel Officially Set to Direct THE DARK TOWER
It was already reported that director Nikolaj Arcel was in talks to write and direct Stephen King's big screen adaptation of The Dark Tower. According to Deadline that deal has closed, and he's now officially set to write and direct it.
The film project is set up to be developed and produced by Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital. I'm happy that the move is actually happening, but I wish it was still being developed as a directing vehicle for Ron Howard (who is still on board as a producer). I know his vision for the story would have made for an incredibly epic adventure.
Arcel is the director of films such as the Oscar-nominated A Royal Affair, and he wrote the Swedish version of Stieg Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. He's a solid director! It's just hard to tell if he's the right choice for the film project. I'm sure he'll do great, though.
Anders Thomas Jensen will work with Arcel on re-writing the script for the film, which was previously worked on by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. Jensen won an Oscar for his short film Election Night.
This will be the first of several planned films that Sony will distribute, and the complementary TV series that will bridge the gap between the films is also still in play and being developed. I'm such a huge fan of this series, and I hope Arcel is able to give fans a version of the film that we will love!
