No, Billy Zane and Jason Biggs Aren't Going To Be SPIDER-MAN Villains
A couple of days ago, you may have seen a photo floating around the internet of a potential cast list for Sony and Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man reboot. We didn't bother posting it because it didn't come from a trusted source, and it could very well have been entirely made up. It claimed, among other things, that Billy Zane was in negotiations to play Vulture and Jason Biggs was in talks to play Scorpion, and if that seems like totally insane casting, that's because it's not real.
Vulture spoke with writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein and the duo shot down the veracity of any such list this early on in the process:
"We've discussed certain characters," said Daley, "but nothing is certain yet, for sure."
So they haven't even finalized which characters are going to be in the movie, let alone begun the casting process. And while I don't think Jason Biggs would make a good Scorpion, there's something delightfully insane about casting Billy Zane as Vulture. Whatever he'd do would probably be the complete opposite of how John Malkovich would have handled the character in Sam Raimi's abandoned Spider-Man 4, and maybe it's just that I'm a Billy Zane fan (real talk: he's one of the best parts of Titanic), but I actually want to see his take on that character. I wonder what Hansel would think about all this.
