One Major Cast Member Confirmed for STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII
I don't know if you would consider this news a SPOILER or not, but just to be safe, I didn't put the name of the actor returning to reprise his role in the title of the post. If you don't want to know who this actor is, then stop reading now.
Star Wars: Episode VIII was supposed to start shooting earlier this week, but the first day of shooting was delayed due to bad weather. The news comes from the Irish Examiner who says that several cast and crew members were in County Kerry to film some scenes off the coast on the Skellig Michael, which also served as a location on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
One of those cast members includes Mark Hamill, who will be back to reprise his role of Luke Skywalker in the sequel. I already figured this new trilogy would include Hamill all the way through it, but there might be some fans out there who didn't realize this was the case.
What's crazy is that Skellig Michael is the place where Hamill almost reportedly died. There's a monastic settlement on the mountain that dates back to between the sixth and twelfth centuries that they are shooting in. This is most likely the place where Luke has been hiding away.
Rian Johnson (Looper) is directing the movie, which is set to be released on May 26th, 2017. There's no other information on who else is set to return, but I imagine most of the cast from The Force Awakens will be back for the sequel.
