Patrick Stewart Announces He's Retiring as Professor X After LOGAN
Well, it looks like Hugh Jackman isn't the only one retiring from the X-Men franchise after Logan. After teasing that he might be in Deadpool 2, Patrick Stewart has announced that Logan will be the last time we see him in the role of Professor X. That's a sad piece of news to start the weekend off with!
Stewart has said a few times that he wasn't really done with playing Xavier yet, but he felt that Logan was so good and so powerful that it changed his mind. The movie was so good, it made him not want to reprise the role again. He made the announcement during a Sirius XM Town Hall explaining:
“I was so moved by it, much more moved than I had been the first time of seeing it… [After the screening,] we were going to be taken up on stage, but not until the credits were over. We had some time to sit there and, as I sat there, I realized there will never be a better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie. So, I told [Hugh] that same evening, ‘I’m done too. It’s all over.'”
Damn. I won't lie, I got a little emotional when I saw this news and read what Stewart had to say. It seems like Logan is going to be the ultimate X-Men film that will put all others to shame.
Like with Jackman, at least Stewart is ending his time in the X-Men franchise on top, with a great movie. Stewart is definitely going to be missed in the role, but he sure did have an awesome run as Professor Xavier! He was always one of the best parts of the franchise.
