Peyton Reed on Fully Realizing The Wasp in ANT-MAN AND THE WASP
Marvel’s Ant-Man was an incredibly fun movie, and one of the most exciting parts of it came at the very end when Hope Van Dyne was introduced to The Wasp suit that her dad had been working on. That was a big launching point for her character, and I can’t wait to see how that character grows in the MCU as these films move forward.
During an interview with Yahoo, director Peyton Reed talked about the sequel's title, Ant-Man and The Wasp, and how this sequel will fully realize this character:
“It just happened to be organic for the characters of Ant-Man and Wasp, [so] it worked. Her last line in the movie — ‘It’s about damn time’ — [is] very much about her specific character and arc in that movie, but it is absolutely about a larger thing. It’s about damn time: We’re going to have a fully realized, very very complicated hero in the next movie who happens to be a woman.”
I’ve been a fan of The Wasp for a long time, so I couldn’t be more excited to where these upcoming films take her. When talking about the appeal of coming back to direct the sequel, Reed said:
“I think one of the appealing things about coming back for a sequel is to be able to build it from the ground up this time. Also, [there’s] stuff that we clearly set up in the first movie that we want to pay off and have fun with in the second movie. Since we know [the characters’] origins, we can go in some weird, unique and different territory.”
That’s one of the things that I loved about Ant-Man the most. It was weirder than the rest of the Marvel film, up until thid point. It touched on some very different aspects of the Marvel universe, and it will be cool to see Reed and the studio play with all of that stuff even more in this next adventure.
Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters on July 5th, 2018.
