Pez Candy is Getting Its Own Movie...Ugh
We have more proof that Hollywood is officially out of fresh, great ideas. Just last week, we learned that Sony Pictures was developing a movie about Emoji, and we now have word that a production company called Envision Media Arts is developing a movie based on Pez candy.
Pez has been around for 88 years, and as much as I enjoy eating Pez candy out of their cool collectible dispensers over the years, I can't help but roll my eyes at the thought of a movie. This trend of turning anything and everything into movies is officially out of hand.
The candy company also announced that the script would be written by Cameron Fay. His only screenwriting credit is for an upcoming film called Brother in Laws, and he’s also going to write a new Three Stooges movie coming out in 2017.
There's no information on what the story for the film will entail. All we have to go off of is a quote from Envision Media Arts co-founder Lee Nelson, who says:
“Pez candy is beloved by children and adults alike. With Cameron Fay we’ve created a world unique to Pez and a story that will touch the hearts of many.”
I thought for sure if any candy was going to get a big screen adaptation first it would be M&M's because they already have characters. The next thing you know, we'll be getting movies based on cereal mascots!
The only way I could see a Pez movie work is if it was an over the top ridiculous type comedy that didn't take itself seriously at all. The more crazy and unpredictable it is, the better it could be. Or it would be great if it was a strictly serious horror movie. I'm sure the studio will end up following the regular boring formula as all these other movies, though.
In the end, making a Pez movie is just absolutely absurd. Of course, if you're a hardcore fan of Pez, then maybe you're excited about this news.
